What Is Adobe Express? Free Plan, Pricing, and How It Compares in 2026

Adobe Express is Adobe’s template-first design app for social posts, flyers, videos, and short documents. It runs in a browser and on a phone. The free plan costs $0 and needs no payment card. Premium costs US$9.99 a month and adds 250 Firefly generative credits, brand kits, and 100GB of storage, as of September 2026. This guide answers the questions people ask most: what Adobe Express is, what the free plan includes, what Premium costs in the US and the UK, what the Airtel offer is, and whether Express or Canva is the better pick. It ends with where a dedicated generator such as Krea 2 fits, and where it does not.

How we chose and tested

Every price, quota, and date in this post was checked against the vendor’s own page in September 2026: Adobe Express, the Express pricing page, the UK Express pricing page, Adobe’s Creative Cloud Pro announcement, Airtel’s press release, and Canva’s pricing page. Where a vendor does not publish an exact number, we say so. We used each app’s free plan to make the same three assets: a square social post, an A5 flyer, and a website banner. Every AI image in this post is a single, raw Krea 2 generation from the exact prompt beside it. No image here was made with Adobe Express or Canva, and the captions say so.

What exactly is Adobe Express?

Adobe describes Express as “The quick and easy create-anything app” on adobe.com/express. In practice it is a template editor with Adobe’s Firefly features built in. You pick a template for a post, a flyer, a logo, a video, or a PDF. You swap in your text, photos, and brand colors. You export or schedule the result. It runs in a desktop browser and on iOS and Android.

The Firefly features are what separate Express from a plain template editor. The Express home page lists text-to-image (“Generate AI images”), logo generation, text effects, remove background, change background, and video generation and editing. Brand kits let a team “apply brand fonts and colors to designs.” A content scheduler posts to social channels from inside the app. Resize converts one design to every channel size in one step.

Express settings recipe for a first social post (no image here; we do not fake Express outputs):

Open Adobe Express in a browser and sign in with a free Adobe account. Choose Instagram post (square) from the templates. Search templates for “product launch minimal”. Replace the headline text. Click the image, choose Generate image, and type: “frosted glass skincare bottle on wet slate, soft daylight, pale sage background”. Apply, then Download as PNG.

Variation tips: use Resize to make the story and banner versions from the same design; keep the generated image to one subject, because Express templates crop tightly.

Where it stops: Express is a layout tool with generation added. Its text-to-image runs on Adobe’s Firefly models, which trail the frontier on photorealism and prompt adherence, and Premium meters them at 250 credits a month. Express has no dedicated upscaler and no style-reference control for a consistent look across a campaign.

What does the Adobe Express free plan include?

The free plan is a plan, not a trial. Per Adobe’s pricing page, Adobe Express Free costs US$0.00 with no payment card and includes:

  • “Access to 100,000+ static and video templates”
  • 5GB of cloud storage
  • Standard photo, video, and document editing tools
  • Free daily generations of Firefly features, described as limited; Adobe does not publish the exact daily count

The free plan does not include premium templates, brand kits, remove video background, or the 250 monthly generative credits. Those sit on Premium.

How much is Adobe Express? US and UK pricing

United States. Adobe Express Premium costs US$9.99 a month, billed monthly with no annual commitment, per the Express pricing page. Premium includes 250 generative credits per month per user, all premium static and video templates, 100GB of storage, brand kits, remove video background, and one-click resize. Adobe Firefly Pro, at US$19.99 a month, includes Express Premium plus 4,000 monthly generative credits and Photoshop on web and mobile. Teams pay US$4.99 per licence per month in the first year (regular US$7.99) on an annual plan, minimum two seats, with 1TB of storage per user.

United Kingdom. Adobe prices the UK store in pounds on the UK Express pricing page. That page shows prices by your location, so we could not read the GBP web price from outside the UK during this check. Adobe’s own in-app prices on the UK App Store listing show “Adobe Express Premium - Annual £99.99” and a monthly Express subscription at £8.99. App Store prices include VAT and can differ from web checkout. Confirm the GBP figure on Adobe’s UK page before you subscribe.

Generative credits. Credits meter Firefly features inside Express: text-to-image, generative fill, text effects, and video. Premium gives 250 a month. Firefly Pro gives 4,000. For how credits reset, and for the full Firefly plan ladder, see our Adobe Firefly pricing guide.

What is Adobe Express from Airtel?

Airtel, the Indian telecom, offers Adobe Express Premium at no cost to its customers. Per Airtel’s press release of 29 January 2026, all Airtel customers on mobile, Wi-Fi, and DTH services get one year of Adobe Express Premium, claimed through the Airtel Thanks app, with no credit card required. Airtel states the value at about ₹4,000. Adobe’s FAQ for the Airtel offer covers credits, files after the free period, and cancellation. The offer is for Airtel customers in India only. Check Airtel’s current terms for the activation window.

Is Adobe Express better than Canva?

Both are browser and mobile template editors with AI features and a free plan. They differ on template library, AI metering, brand kits, and price.

Sources: Adobe Express pricing and Canva pricing, checked 2026-09-21.

The honest read: Canva has the larger template library and the bigger free plan for volume. Express has the cleaner path into Adobe’s stack, and Premium’s month-to-month billing is easier to start and stop than Canva’s yearly Pro price. Canva Pro at US$144 a year is $12 a month, close to Express Premium at $9.99. On AI, Adobe publishes a credit count for Premium. Canva publishes a multiple of its free allowance and sells an AI Pass add-on. Neither publishes a per-image cost.

Canva settings recipe for the same social post:

Open Canva and choose Instagram Post (Square). Search templates for “product launch minimal”. Click a photo placeholder, open Apps, choose Magic Media, and type: “frosted glass skincare bottle on wet slate, soft daylight, pale sage background”. Insert, then Share and Download as PNG.

Variation tips: save your palette in the one free Brand Kit so every template snaps to it; use Resize on Pro, or duplicate the design on Free and set the size by hand.

Where Canva stops: Magic Media outputs lean toward a stock look, and the free AI allowance of up to 20 uses runs out in one working session. For an AI-first look at the alternatives, see Canva alternatives for AI-first design in 2026.

Which is better, Canva or Firefly?

They are different kinds of product. Canva is a design app with AI inside it. Adobe Firefly is a generation app with its own plans, and it also powers the AI inside Express. If your output is a finished flyer or post, compare Canva with Adobe Express. If your output is an image or clip you will place elsewhere, compare Firefly with a generator. The Firefly plan that matters here is Firefly Pro at US$19.99, because it bundles Express Premium.

Where both stop: original imagery

Express and Canva make the layout fast. Neither makes a strong original image. Their generators produce placeholders, and their stock libraries are shared with every competitor. The photo that makes a flyer look like a brand still comes from a shoot or from a dedicated generator.

This is where Krea fits, and where it does not. Krea does not lay out flyers, hold brand fonts, or schedule posts. It generates the image you drop into Express or Canva. The free plan runs Krea 2 at 100 compute units a day, with basic upscaling to 2K and no credit card, per krea.ai/pricing. Paid plans start at $9 a month ($5 a month billed yearly) for 5,000 compute units, which Krea lists as “64 Nano Banana 2 generations, 20 Seedance 2.0 videos,” and add the full model library, the AI image editor, the Enhancer for print sizes, and the commercial license.

Where Krea stops: the free plan is Krea 2 images only. It does not include the full model library, video models, 3D or lipsync, Nodes, or the commercial license. Those sit on paid plans. Krea makes no licensed-training-data claim like Adobe’s, so if legal requires that, use Firefly’s models inside Express.

Here is the same skincare brief from the recipes above, as one raw Krea 2 output from the exact prompt below. No retouching.

Prompt:

Product hero photograph for a social media post: a frosted glass skincare bottle with a bamboo cap standing on a wet slate slab, a single eucalyptus sprig beside it, soft diffused daylight, fine water droplets, pale sage background, generous negative space on the right for a headline, no text

Variation tips: name where the negative space goes so it matches the text box in your Express or Canva template; swap “pale sage” for your brand color and keep the rest fixed.

Raw Krea 2 output from the skincare prompt above, generated with Krea 2, not Adobe Express or Canva

A flyer background needs blur where the headline goes. Again, one raw Krea 2 output:

Prompt:

Background image for a neighborhood bakery flyer: a rustic wooden counter with fresh sourdough loaves and croissants on linen, warm morning light through a shop window, shallow depth of field, large soft out-of-focus area in the upper half for headline text, no text, no signage

Variation tips: ask for “out-of-focus area” in the half where the template puts the title; add “no signage” so the model does not invent a shop name. For layout ideas, see how to design a poster with AI.

Style range is the other test. The pair below is one scene generated twice with only the style clause changed. Both are raw Krea 2 outputs.

One brief, two styles. Raw Krea 2 outputs.

Generated with Krea 2, not with Adobe Express or Canva.

Prompts:

Flat vector illustration of a small coffee cart on a city street corner at golden hour, two customers waiting, potted plants, warm mustard and terracotta palette with muted teal accents, clean shapes, subtle paper grain, no text

Photorealistic photograph of a small coffee cart on a city street corner at golden hour, two customers waiting, potted plants, warm backlight with long shadows, 35mm lens, natural color grading, no text

Variation tips: hold the scene fixed and change only the style clause; add a style-reference image when a client needs the same look across a set.

The third asset, a website banner. One raw Krea 2 output:

Prompt:

Website banner photograph of a florist arranging a bouquet of peonies and eucalyptus in a bright studio, linen apron, hands in motion, soft window light, natural skin texture, 50mm lens, shallow depth of field, wide composition with clear negative space on the left, no text

Variation tips: name the lens and the light source; “soft window light” and “50mm” do more for skin than any quality keyword. Run the result through the Enhancer before a print run.

Which should you pick?

Pick by the deliverable, not by the brand.

  • Pick Adobe Express if you already use Adobe apps, you want month-to-month billing at US$9.99, or you need Firefly’s licensed-training-data position for generated elements. Pick it also if you are an Airtel customer in India, because Premium is included for a year.
  • Pick Canva if you need the largest template library, you work with a team on shared brand kits, or your volume of posts is high and Pro at US$144 a year pays for itself. Pick it also if you print through the app.
  • Pick a generator such as Krea if the image is the work. Generate the hero, the background, or the product shot in Krea 2, then drop it into either app for text and layout. Krea’s free plan covers images only; video, the full model library, and commercial use need a paid plan.
  • Pick both if you publish a campaign, not a single post: Express or Canva for layout and scheduling, a generator for the imagery. For generator picks by budget, see the best free AI image generators in 2026, and for logo work see the best AI logo generators in 2026.
